Scientists have discovered water in the galaxy SPT0311-58, located 12.8 billion light-years away from Earth. This marks the farthest distance where water has been detected in the universe. Using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile, researchers also found carbon dioxide in this young galaxy, which formed just 780 million years after the Big Bang. The presence of oxygen, released by dying stars, explains how water could exist there. While this discovery excites astronomers, aliens from this galaxy won't reach us anytime soon, even if they traveled at the speed of light!
