The Russian space agency says it has re-established contact with civilian satellites and the International Space Station (ISS) after a construction company reportedly cut a cable, east of Moscow, severing communications.

The state-run news agency RIA cited an unnamed source as saying Russia has lost the ability to send commands to the majority of civilian satellites, as well as its portion of the ISS.

The space agency said military satellites had not been affected.

Authorities also said the departure of three astronauts from the ISS due on November 19 will go ahead as planned.
