New Yorkers have welcomed the city's first cupcake vending machine that promises to dispense freshly baked cakes around the clock. Named the Cupcake ATM the machine was launched by company Sprinkles Cupcakes, which launched its first Cupcake ATM in Beverly Hills in March 2012. The latest New York addition is its fifth in the United States. Regional manager Maura Weber said: "One of our founders, Candace, when she was pregnant with her second child had a craving in the middle of the night for something sweet and she was like 'I own a cupcake bakery, I run a cupcake shop. How can I not get one?' And then boom, the idea for the Cupcake ATM was born." The vending machine is a computer operated device with a robotic arm, stocks flavours like coconut, red velvet and lemon, and can dispense up to four cupcakes per order. Report by Sarah Kerr.
