An injured buffalo calf lying between the two tracks and another three on an adjacent one.
“Our seniors have ordered us that until the buffaloes die, we cannot touch them,” shrugged an official from the Panvel GRP.
The GRP personnel were planning to throw the buffaloes into a nearby creek, but when I persisted, they let the animals be. However, they refused to rescue the animals by calling for an ambulance or an NGO. The PETA and Cidco officials simply kept passing the buck to each other. By 4pm, one buffalo died and the other followed it in the next 30 minutes. This, despite two veterinarians having arrived at the spot by 4pm. Both were pregnant. After their death, the buffaloes were simply tossed into the creek.
