A tsunami alert has been issued for Hawaii after a powerful earthquake hit British Colombia, on the other side of the Pacific. It is due to hit at 8.28 GMT, and people have been warned to seek high ground.
The US Geological Survey reported its magnitude as 7.7 and at a depth of 10 km. There have been no immediate reports of damage to Canada's Pacific seaboard.
The quake went unnoticed in the province's two main cities of Vancouver and Victoria.
Alaska also issued a tsunami warning for some coastal sections.
