US to send more troops to Afghanistan ‘to fight more effectively’
More US troops will be heading to Afghanistan. Pentagon chief James Mattis has now signed an order to dispatch additional forces. Trump provided no deadline for an end to the war. The number of additional troops to be sent to the country is being kept under wraps. In addition, the president wants the NATO allies to throw more soldiers and money into the fight. Trump’s Afghan strategy shake-up is raising fears of even more civilian casualties. Robert Naiman of the Just Foreign Policy think tank says the new strategy will likely lead to more civilian deaths.
