Five people have been injured by an explosion at an Istanbul metro station.
According to latest reports, the blast was reportedly triggered by a power transformer at the Bayrampasa metro station.
Atilla Aydiner, mayor of the district, has reportedly told Turkish television it was a pipe bomb, police however say the cause remains unclear although the device went off close to a specialist police unit base.
Five people were injured when a pipe bomb exploded on an overpass near an Istanbul metro station on Tuesday (December 1), the district mayor said, halting some train operations and heightening security fears in Europe's biggest city.
Tuesday's blast near the Bayrampasa metro station came at the height of the evening rush hour, district Mayor Atilla Aydiner told A Haber television. Bayrampasa is a residential and industrial area on the European side of Istanbul.
