It has been a year since the European Union and the US expanded economic sanctions against Russia.
Moscow is accused of backing separatists fighting government forces in eastern Ukraine.
Last month, the EU extended those sanctions until January.
But, as Al Jazeera’s Emma Hayward reports from Moscow, the measures seem to be hurting ordinary Russians more than the country’s leaders.
