At least 30 Kurdish fighters were killed by Islamic State as the group tried to re-take a town in northern Iraq. Last month, local resistance forces broke the jihadi siege of Mount Sinjar - a strategic territory that's been occupied by militants since August. The goal now is to secure small Yazidi villages nearby, that bore the brunt of the insurgency. An RT crew visited the devastated area.
