|China conducts anti-terrorism exercises due to rising number of attacks |
Chinese police have taken part in anti-terror exercises as the country faces a rising tide of attacks by terrorists and religious extremists. On Thursday, 39 people were killed and more than 90 others injured in a series of car bombings in Urumqi, the capital of northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It's prompted major cities to heighten security in public places and tighten control of explosives and weapons, with police across China being put through anti-terror training. Report by Jeremy Barnes.
China has been stepping up security drills nationwide as part of a year-long crackdown on terrorist attacks. It was the first time that some of the police's most advanced equipment, including high-precision sniper rifles, armored patrol vehicles and a remote command system had been used in combat exercises.
