On the 15 December 2013, the Yemeni parliament approved a total ban on US drone strikes. This followed an attack on 12 December in which a US drone mistakenly fired on a convoy of vehicles travelling to a wedding party in the town of Radda, killing as many as 17 people and injuring around 21 others. US drone strikes in Yemen have been part of a joint US-Yemeni campaign against al-Qaeda but over the past two years civilian targets have been mistakenly hit on several occasions - something that Human Rights Watch says is in violation of international law.
