The barriers have gone up again in Independence Square in Kyiv with the protesters defiant in the teeth of a bitter chill. Diplomatic relations too are plummeting towards a deep freeze.
The US State department has warned it is considering economic action against Ukraine. "All policy options are on the table including sanctions" a spokeswoman said but was not specific on what kind.
The West has expressed outrage at the actions of the Ukrainian authorities - the US Secretary of State John Kerry gave his opinion in the strongest terms. RT's Gayane Chichyakyan reports from Washington.
Thousands of protestors continue to control the center square of Ukraine's capital Kyiv, a day after riot police tried to gain control of the area but then pulled back after making little headway. Police moved in on Kyiv's Independence Square in the dead of night but where met by protestors who formed a human wall and blocked their entry.
The US is not holding back in saying what it thinks about the situation as it is now looking at sanctions against Kiev. Earlier the Secretary of State said he was disgusted by the police response to the rallies. RT talks to Richard Becker, a geopolitical analyst from anti-war Answer coalition.
